[su_dropcap style=”default” size=”3″ class=””]A[/su_dropcap]lthough it may seem counter-intuitive at first, the fact is that healthy people often take naps. While some may think naps are for little kids, convalescents and the elderly, the truth is that a healthy human body, functioning properly, actually thrives off of power naps. But, since most people work basic 40-hour weeks under a boss, it can be tricky finding the perfect time to grab that power nap.
A power nap isn’t necessarily taken because an individual isn’t sleeping well; an individual doesn’t even need to be tired per se. The brain can easily become overloaded with information on a daily basis, muscles can tire, and stress can pile up in our day-to-day lives. A power nap provides an individual with the key benefits of feeling more energized and more refreshed, more relaxed and less stressed, and more focused and able to tackle those busy, hectic days. In fact, according to a medical study conducted by Harvard University, people who take power naps are 34% less likely to suffer heart attacks and other heart-related issues, so the benefits are proven science.
Now all that remains is finding the best time to grab that power nap.
1: When the Boss Isn’t Around
Now, we in no way endorse sleeping on the job, but if ever you need to grab a power nap during work hours, you obviously want to make sure bosses and supervisors aren’t lurking around. You’re trying to rest up to recharge; you’re not trying to get fired.
2: After Lunch but Before Dinner
How does a 2:00 p.m. nap sound? “Like heaven,” is the answer many will give. Well, this is a great time to grab a power nap, and it certainly helps if you visit a napnook in order to catch your quick 20-minute Zs.
3: When Someone’s Around to Wake You
A power nap can be so, so comfortable. You close your eyes and shut off the hectic world. You relax, unwind, and find your sweet spot. You drift off into a zone that’s like a bath in warm milk – just exceedingly comfortable and relaxing. But, unless you have someone/something to wake you up, that 20-minute nap can easily turn into REM sleep, and you’ll sleep into the night and ultimately disrupt your internal clock. So, whatever time you decide to grab that nap, make sure someone/something is around to wake you up; e.g. the napnook idea.
It’s hard to envision a high-powered attorney or an accountant taking a power nap midday, but it’s actually becoming an incredibly common thing, and some corporations are allowing for an extended lunch period just so their employees can grab that important nap. It won’t be long before everyone realizes the benefits. Just make sure you find the right time to grab your nap.
